I love the story of you and your mom in Graceland. That was special.

As for how you met Marion – it’s definitely beshert, as we say. I lived in NYC for year, in a building with an elevator. I never met anyone in that building, except the doorman. I don’t think I even knew my neighbors!

Warda—Thanks for the interesting challenge! The apartment we consolidated into in that building is actually the loveliest apartment either of us has ever lived in—even though it had a narrow galley kitchen. We think of it and the old neighborhood with great fondness.

Melinda—I didn’t make it to Avebury. I drove around lots of England, Wales and Scotland, though, and was charmed by the beauty at every turn. Obviously I need to go back.

Regarding the trip with my mom, as we pulled into Memphis, I asked her if she might be up to a little walking. She didn’t ask where, but just said, “I guess so.” After we’d passed a few billboards for Graceland, she asked me where we were going to do this walking. I figured she was on to me, so I told her, “I’m taking my mama to Graceland!”

Fancy you being a Stonehenge intruder! Did you go to Avebury? No fences and very cool for huge rock rings. You can touch, kiss and photograph the rocks!
I totally agree with you about snails. I never seem that interested to try them when they are on the menu. I see other things much more interesting.
I don’t like coffee flavoured cakes/desserts, but adore real coffee.
I love ‘meeting’ stories. Love can strike anywhere at any time.
And your trip with your Mom is quite touching. Such an excellent surprise outing to do with her. Perfect.

Patricia—Thanks, even if you’re not a fan of the best cookie in the world. Graceland really is fascinating. First, for being the home of one of the biggest stars of his time, it’s surprisingly modest—except for his, um, interesting taste in decor, it is essentially just a house he bought from a doctor in Memphis. And second, you really see everybody there, from all walks of life and all over the world. Clearly, Elvis touched many, many people—and continues to do so.
